Invasion of the Cassowaries
The most dangerous bird in the world, the Cassowary, is on the move.
The Cassowary is native to the tropical forests of New Guinea and northern Australia. The Cassowary is an endangered species. The birds’ numbers have dwindled to just 1500.
The Cassowary’s rain forest habitat is shrinking, forcing the birds to look for food wherever it can like populated neighborhoods.
To make matters worse, the Cassowary is ornery and mean. And it has speed. It can run as fast as 30 mph and leap tall shrubs in a single bound.
Each foot has 3 claws as sharp as daggers. And the bird has been known to attack and even kill. A 16 year old boy died when his neck was punctured by a Cassowary’s claws. Others have suffered crushed bones and mangled flesh.
It’s not uncommon to see Cassowaries walking down the streets, chasing cars, and pecking at bedroom windows.
Zoologists say steer clear of the Cassowary and never feed the bird. This will only decrease its fear of humans even more, resulting in more attacks.
