How to Learn Swimming?

How to learn swimming

   Learn Swimming

Swimming is fun and offers a good workout. Additional benefits of swimming include improved attractiveness to the opposite gender and reduced stress. If you want to learn swimming effectively, follow these tips religiously!
1. It’s never too late to start.

2. Often people learn swimming at an early age while those who didn’t learn wonder if they are still cut out to learn it. Learning how to swim doesn’t have age requirements. It’s never too late to start!

3. Swim with baby steps. Swimming isn’t as scary and complicated after you get the proper understanding of the sport. While there are several ways to learn swimming, don’t jump into the pool hoping you will figure it out by yourself! Start with the shallow pool first. By shallow I mean being able to touch the bottom and comfortably stand with water up to the neck. Don’t start with the deep pool! Not being able to touch the bottom can make you nervous and panic.

Now that you are comfortable with I’ll start with the basics of swimming. You MUST learn front crawl, breast stroke and back stroke.

- Front Crawl: Front crawl is exactly how it sounds. It’s as if someone is crawling forward on water. Front crawl has many health benefits. It strengthens the back, tones the arms and legs, increases the mobility of the shoulders and hips as well as improving cardiovascular fitness.
- Breast Stroke: Breast Stroke looks the way frogs swim. Breaststroke can improve the mobility of many joints including the hips, shoulders, ankles, wrists and spine.
– Back Stroke: Back Stroke is like front crawl, except on your back. Swimming on your back benefits postural awareness, promoting a sense of lengthening and widening. As the weight of the head is fully supported by the water, the neck can release easily.

4. Get some help.

5. This could mean bringing along a friend to the pool or getting a swimming instructor. It’s always nice to get feedback on your swimming performance. Moreover, you can use flotation devices. This helps you focus on developing the stroke you are learning than worry about staying afloat. I would personally recommend water boards and dumbbells.

6. Practice. Practice makes perfect. Master one skill before moving on to the next. The more you practice, the better you will become at swimming and the easier it will become to learn the other strokes. In no time, you will be racing through your lane!

7. Never give up. Persistence is the key to swimming. Don’t be lazy and skip out on a few days. Maintain your schedule; if you are having a tough time maintaining a schedule, find motivation! This could include imagining how hot your body will look after swimming, how you’ll meet attractive men/women, etc. Whatever works for you.
